The Clinical Educator is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the orientation process for all new 4th floor employees as well as the continuing education for established staff. This position will work collaboratively with unit leadership to enhance the quality of patient care, and work to continuously improve both patient and staff experience on the 4th floor, through supporting the foundational aspects of entry into practice, as well as continuing education of experienced staff. The 4th floor Clinical Educator effectively provides and promotes person-centered care, nursing best practices, and staff engagement in a commitment to excellence. Strong written and oral communication skills as well as strong organizational and computer skills required.


Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Personal characteristics: Honest, calm, reliable, compassionate, and caring to patients and coworkers. Demonstrates integrity at all times. Ensures a positive influence on morale and emotional maturity.
  • Coordinate and oversee orientation process including the planning and evaluation of all new 4th floor employees, and provide written updates at 30 day and 60 day intervals in preparation for 90 day introductory evaluation.
  • Maintain educational documentation and checklists on all 4th floor employees in preparation for Joint Commission/DOH surveys.
  • Educate and update staff on policy changes, new equipment, and process changes within the department and the organization.
  • Provide and/or coordinate competencies and certifications for 4th floor staff.
  • Coordinate annual unit skills day and associated documentation of staff participation.
  • Coordinate drills based on identified high risk procedures/topics in conjunction with charge nurses/team leaders to be performed at various times and shifts in attempt to

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required, Master's Degree in Nursing Education preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years' experience in medical/telemetry nursing.
  • Licensure: Currently licensed in the State of New York as a Registered Professional Nurse.
  • Certification: BLS, ACLS

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Is flexible in assuming other appropriate responsibilities not noted above.

Physical Requirements:

  • Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., Use of computer keyboard); may require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 lbs), including boxes, equipment, IV solutions and stooping and kneeling (e.g., to pick up items from the floor, to remove and replace items on lower shelves and to file documents in lower file drawers); sitting, walking, or standing for long periods of time may be necessary; must be able physically to operate the equipment used for the job.

Compensation Disclosure:

$43.27 to 57.69 per hour
