Job Description

Job Title: System Director Supply Chain Operations

Department: Materials Management

Reports To: Chief Financial Officer


Job Summary: The System Director of Supply Chain Operations is responsible for the management and supervision of the storeroom, distribution of materials throughout the health system, purchasing, mailroom, and print shop. Responsibilities include coordination of material storage and distribution, supplies, inventory, budget controls and policy

Job Responsibilities include:

  • - Administration/Management of Department
  • Provides leadership for the Materials Services staff; demonstrates leadership characteristics in interactions with other Medical Center departments/staff.
  • Actively plans, organizes, delegates and controls the activities of the department to meet established goals and to support the organization's mission.
  • Coordinates activities, sets priorities, and follows through on assignments, maximizing the use of staff, materials and equipment.
  • Develops and implements purchasing policies & procedures.
  • Supports administration's philosophies and goals in working as an effective team member, as well as promoting teamwork within the department.
  • Monitors and controls all phases of labor to fit the needs of the department, including cost and product control
  • - Productivity
  • Works to increase productivity of the department through the organization of all department activities.
  • Accomplishes tasks accurately, completely and efficiently on a timely basis.
  • Coordinates department responsibilities with other departments efficiently and effectively.
  • Establishes guidelines for quality of purchases, inventory, distribution, and receiving.
  • Is thorough, consistent and results-oriented.
  • - Analytical Ability
  • Demonstrates sound, logical and original approaches when addressing new projects or assessing problems. Evaluates the facts, sorts out relative material and arrives at an objective conclusion.
  • Assist departments in drafting equipment specifications for capital purchases, coordinate bidding process, receiving, and recording.
  • Considers the total concept and impact, not just as it relates to individual departments.
  • Uses common sense an innovation in approaching new methods or procedures.
  • - Communication
  • Maintains open lines of communication within the department as well as outside the department.
  • Communicates concerns and goals within the department to the Controller as needed; updates the Controller on important issues and makes recommendations.
  • Interacts and communicates with other departments' employees as needed in the day-to-day operations of the department.
  • Works closely with the Accounting Department of the purchasing cycle process.
  • Works to maintain and/or improve positive interdepartmental relations.
  • - Financial Viability
  • Insures efficiency through work standards and assignments.
  • Manages GPO relationship to maximize financial benefits and services.
  • Negotiate and purchase required goods and services at the lowest net cost, consistent with approved quality and delivery standards.
  • Works to maximize reimbursement within appropriate guidelines.
  • Develops, recommends and implements new business initiatives.
  • Insures sound budget management.
  • Assists in the preparation of the Departments annual budget.
  • - Education, Risk Management/Safety and Performance Improvement
  • Maintains comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable laws and regulations
  • Maintains an awareness of new trends
  • Reads professional literature and attends training.
  • Encourages the observance of safety rules and good housekeeping practices throughout the department and work areas.
  • Provides guidance and instruction to subordinates in safe work methods.
  • Is conscientious toward the general appearance of the department and the maintenance of equipment.
  • Takes appropriate initiative in suggesting improvements to the Medical Center's physical image.
  • - Is flexible in assuming other appropriate responsibilities not noted above.

Requirements:

Education - Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration

Experience - Minimum of four years supervisory experience preferably in acute health care facility

Licensure - NA

Physical Requirements - standing, sitting, walking, lifting
