Job Title: Informatics Pharmacist

Department: Pharmacy

Reports To: System Director of Pharmacy

Job Summary: The Informatics Pharmacist will be responsible for the implementation, on-going maintenance, testing, support, and quality assurance of pharmacy information systems and will collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate information technology (IT) solutions that optimize workflows and medication management processes.

Job Responsibilities include:

• Collaborates with electronic health record analysts and the Information Systems department to design, evaluate, and validate medication builds that support all steps of the medication management process.
• Functions as system administrator accountable for organizing and completing the validation of changes within pharmacy systems and related software, including integrated testing, training, auditing, troubleshooting, and maintaining documentation as required.
• Provides the critical link between pharmacy workflows and technology that communicates the complex informatics issues to end-users in order to improve workflow efficiency and patient care.
• Independently manages assigned projects in conjunction with the Information Systems department and vendors in order to provide timely implementation of IT products and services.
• Continuously identifies opportunities for process improvement within the pharmacy operations and recommends the implementation of innovative IT solutions that promote best practices with medication management and improves patient safety.
• Monitors industry for trends and advances in technology and stays current with knowledge relevant to implementation of such when necessary
• Assists in investigating and responding to audits conducted by the clinical coordinator, inventory specialist, business analyst, and system director of pharmacy
• Assists in the development of performance metrics and maintains standard operating procedures for all IT applications used within the pharmacy.
• Considers cybersecurity, confidentiality, appropriate user accesses/training, and patient safety in all system design changes and requests from users
• Effectively staffs in the inpatient pharmacy when called upon and supports students during their institutional and advanced pharmacy practice experiential rotations when called upon by the preceptors.
• Is flexible in assuming other appropriate responsibilities not noted above

Requirements:

Education - Graduate of an ACPE-accredited school of pharmacy with either a BS pharmacy or PharmD required. PGY2 in Pharmacy Informatics is preferred though not required. Certification in pharmacy informatics required.

Experience - 3 - 5 years as a health system pharmacist with at least 2 years in an IT role with success in implementing IT solutions in the pharmacy environment.

Licensure - Currently licensed in the State of New York.

Physical Requirements - Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., use of computer keyboard); may require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 lbs.), including boxes, equipment, unit-dose cassettes, and IV solutions and stooping and kneeling (e.g., to pick up items from the floor, to remove and replace items on lower shelves, and to file documents in lower file drawers); sitting, walking, or standing for long periods of time (4-8 hours) is often necessary; must be able physically to operate the equipment used for the job.
