The Interim Stroke Coordinator is a clinically knowledgeable and administratively skilled nurse who supports the hospital's certified Advanced Primary Stroke Center. Reporting to the Stroke Program Manager, this temporary role plays a critical part in maintaining stroke program operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, and advancing quality of care for stroke patients.
The Interim Coordinator will serve in this capacity while the Stroke Program is undergoing structural and strategic planning. The role is full-time and expected to be time-limited, with responsibilities centered on stroke care support, education, data abstraction, and interdepartmental collaboration.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Assist clinical teams with the execution of stroke alerts and provision of time-sensitive stroke care per approved protocols.
- Provide guidance and direct clinical support during acute stroke episodes as needed.
- Help reinforce adherence to evidence-based stroke pathways across the continuum of care.
- Act as at elbow support to front line users related to EPIC Navigation.
- Assist with survey preparation and documentation to maintain The Joint Commission Advanced Primary Stroke Center Certification and New York State Designated Stroke Center status.
- Support the implementation of policies and procedures aligned with Joint Commission and NYSDOH Part 405.34 standards.
- Participate in internal assessments, audits, and policy updates to ensure regulatory readiness
- Participate in stroke case review, abstract clinical data into the GWTG-Stroke registry, and help maintain registry accuracy.
- Share abstraction responsibilities with RN Outcomes Specialists.
- Contribute to stroke quality improvement projects, dashboard development, and performance monitoring.
- Deliver education on stroke protocols and clinical competencies to hospital staff under the guidance of the Stroke Program Manager.
- Support simulation events, mock codes, and stroke awareness campaigns.
- Serve as an active member of the hospital's Stroke Committee and Quality Council.
- Collaborate with Emergency Medicine, Radiology, Neurology, ICU, and EMS to support a unified response.
- Promote communication and shared learning between departments to improve patient outcomes.
Required Skills and Experience:
- RN required
- Current unrestricted NYS RN License
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- BSN Preferred
- minimum of 2 years of clinical experience (ED, ICU, Neurology, or other related specialty) required, experience with Stroke registry or prior experience as a Stroke Coordinator preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, sit or ambulate for long periods. Ability to mobilize freely around units, transport self to site locations, and perform required data entry into EMR and alternate data management systems. Ability to transport self to customer base.
Location and Travel Requirements:
- Onsite with hybrid availability
Pay Range Disclosure:
- $72,000 to $90,000 per year
