The Lead HVAC/Plumber/Med Gas Technician installs, inspects, repairs and maintains key mechanical plumbing and HVAC equipment for water, steam, gas, medical gases, heat, sewage and fire suppression systems throughout the hospital system. Utilizing their expert level knowledge of plumbing / heating/ med gas, physical plant schematics, pipe fitting, welding/brazing and mechanical layouts, he/she/they ensure that the CHS physical plant is operating in a dependable, efficient manner consistent with industry standards for hospital systems.


Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a professional courteous manner with all patients, employees, vendors, and contractors at all times.
  • Maintain plumbing / heating, med gas and fire suppression equipment, systems, and controls across the CHS system, including but not limited to:
    • Monitor, manipulate and adjust plumbing / heating and medical gas equipment and controls.
    • Troubleshoot and repair/replace plumbing / heating and medical gas fixtures equipment, systems and controls.
    • Complete facility rounds and plumbing / heating equipment, systems, and controls checks as required.
    • Maintain plumbing / heating equipment, systems, and controls across the CHS system.
    • Test plumbing / heating systems, controls and safety system for functionality, consistency of operation, and code compliance as required.
    • Completes tasks related to plumbing / heating preventative maintenance.
  • Lead the installation or modification of plumbing / heating/ med gas equipment, systems, and controls.
  • Investigate plumbing / heating/ med gas problems, develop solutions, provide estimates, plan & execute approved work.
  • Suggest plumbing / heating/ med gas process or operating improvements that add value and may reduce operating expense.
  • Lead special plumbing / heating/ med gas projects as may be assigned. Partner with peers to support the plumbing / heating requirements of their projects including HVAC and Refrigeration.
  • Follow department and company policies, in addition to those outlined in the CHS Employee Handbook.
  • Achieve prompt and efficient completion of work orders ensuring dependable operation of systems
  • Assure adherence to all company, city, state, and federal safety standard guidelines.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • 10 years of experience in Commercial Plumbing / HVAC equipment and systems installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair or
  • Associate's degree in Plumbing/HVAC with 5 years' experience
  • NYSDOH Backflow Tester Certification *
  • ASSE 6010 Medical Gas Installer Certification *
  • ASSE 6040 Medical Gas Maintenance Certification *
  • EPA Technician Type Universal Certification *
  • * Ability to obtain with in the first year of employment

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • ASSE 6020 Medical Gas Systems Inspector if highly preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Will require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 lbs.), including equipment & supplies. Ability to climb ladders when working on equipment.

Location and Travel Requirements:

  • Onsite at Main Campus
  • (Days, Evenings, Nights, Days / Nights - FLEX, Various - Scheduled)
  • Periodic travel between facilities can be expected in this role

Pay Range Disclosure:

  • $31.90 to $40.70 per hour
