Anticipated Hours: Full-Time: 35 hours per week
Wage: $18-21/hour
Job Summary:
The CPRA provides peer-to-peer support, advocacy, resource information and self-help services as part of a multi-disciplinary team to clients with substance abuse problems in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures. The position is for an individual who has experience with, or knowledge of, the needs of those diagnosed with substance abuse and how to assist them with accessing community resources.
The CPRA can perform many tasks including:
• Helping peers develop recovery plans
• Learning and practicing new skills
• Helping peers self-monitor their progress
• Modeling effective coping skills
• Attending court and other system meetings as a support
• Facilitating peer support groups
• Supporting another peer in advocating for themselves to obtain effective services
Minimum Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or GED and ability to multi-task.
• NYS Certification as a Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA).
• Ability to satisfactorily complete required background screenings.
• Experience as a peer/family member, with personal experiences of recovery regarding mental illness and/or substance use conditions.
• Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances are warranted.
Desired Qualifications:
• Prior work experience in peer support activities.
• Possess and maintain a valid NYS Driver's License.
Knowledge:
• A basic understanding of addiction and chemical dependency treatment.
• Knowledge of and strict adherence to the Peer Advocate Code of Conduct.
Skills:
• Excellent client service and interpersonal skills.

Key Tasks:
1. Provide an encouraging opportunity for individuals diagnosed with substance use disorder and in need of recovery to engage in dialogue to enhance their recovery and to offer encouragement in times of crisis.
2. Provide clinical support to clients, as needed, on the Mobile Medication Unit.
3. Assists individuals in articulating personal goals through the use of one-on-one and group sessions as they move forward in their care and recovery.
4. Communicates effectively with individuals and family members who may be ambivalent about pursuing treatment and assists them in understanding, dealing with, and supporting the victim.
o Provides linkages, referrals and information regarding community providers.
o Provides ongoing support and training in the use of personal and community resources following discharge in order to engage individuals and families in services (e.g. telephonic, community, and home-based outreach).
5. Identifies, supports, and consults with providers regarding the development and implementation of effective and/or integrated strategies and the use of evidenced based approaches.
6. Establishes and maintains relationships with community provider organizations.
7. Perform a variety of miscellaneous duties as requested to support department and or organization objectives including, but not limited to, completing and maintaining accurate and detailed client case records and related reports as required by agency procedures, filing, and responding to inquiries via phone and email. Maintain professional growth and development by attending staff meetings, events and community coalitions.
