Residential Counselor/Milieu Manager
Position Title: Residential Counselor/Milieu Manager
FLSA Status: Exempt
Supervisor: Clinical Supervisor and/or Program Director
Positions Supervised: Residential Milieu Staff
Job Summary:
Based on the daily needs of the unit, provides a range of clinical, administrative and support services to assure effective care and programming. This position requires a high degree of flexibility.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in human services or related field or 4 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. 2+ years management experience.
Desired Qualifications:
QHP with experience in residential chemical dependency treatment in addition to minimum qualifications.
Knowledge:
A basic understanding of addiction & recovery issues is essential. Knowledge of group process, strength-based principles of treatment, and an individualized approach to treatment is desired.
Skills:
Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to multi-task, crisis intervention skills, ability to maintain healthy & appropriate treatment boundaries, utilization of computer for documentation and communication, ability to be a proactive team player, and able to represent the agency well.
Key Tasks:

Manage client activities such as, but not limited to:
a. Chores and management of the "punch card system"
b. Room-Change requests
c. Random drug screens
d. Room checks for cleanliness
e. Laundry schedule
f. Cleanliness of the punch card closet - Serve as the point of accountability for conflict resolution, crisis intervention, prompt incident reporting, policy enforcement, and in maintaining the overall safety of milieu.

Facilitate and supervise any RC assistance to programming including development of programs aligned with the tenets of the Matrix Model and best addiction treatment practices.

Support the multi-disciplinary team helping clients get to inner facility appointments and/or assist with extra curricula opportunities such as, but not limited to, recreation and/or mentorships.

Demonstrates in carrying out all duties and in all interactions to be a model for CARS' concept that everything is clinical and the residential counselor's "client" is the program milieu and program structure itself.
Abilities:
Ability to perform individual and group treatment modalities, ability to multi-task, ability to maintain healthy and appropriate treatment boundaries, ability to be a proactive team player, ability to be flexible.
Other Tasks & Responsibilities:

Review security footage and assist with investigations

Monitor and maintain the safety and security of the clients and the facility

Address behaviors with a positive attitude

Document activities in accordance with agency practices

Facilitate groups as needed

Assist, as necessary, with admission and discharge procedures

Supervise client activities on the unit and maintain presence in community and common areas

Attend staff and team meetings including, but not limited to "Huddle," Case Reviews and "IDT's"

Supervise client mealtimes and food preparation as needed

Document group attendance in a timely manner

Maintain confidentiality, as per agency practices and confidentiality law

Planning and conducting special activities, as assigned
